Long-term effects of tillage and nitrogen fertilization on soil C and N fractions in a corn–soybean rotation

چکیده

Tillage and nitrogen (N) fertilization can influence soil organic matter (SOM) dynamics, but their interactive effects remain contradictory. A long-term (25 yr) corn (Zea mays L.)-soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) rotation was used to investigate the effect of tillage [moldboard plow (MP) no-till (NT)] N rates (0, 80, 160 kg N·ha −1 ) on carbon (SOC), total (STN), respiration, SOM fractions [particulate (POMC, POMN), mineral-associated (MAOMC, MAOMN), microbial biomass (MBC, MBN)]. Results indicate that NT had 27% higher SOC 24% STN than MP in 0–20 cm depth. Furthermore, stocks (0–20 cm) were 22% 20% higher, respectively, under MP. There significant stratification NT, with a rather uniform distribution The respiration 28%–275% 20%–83% at 0–5 5–10 depths, Interestingly, fertilizer rate or its interaction no impact, except for (tillage × depth). Hence, while addition required adequate grain production increased cumulative plant C inputs, our findings vertical SOC, STN, affected by tillage, thereby influencing resource accessibility subsequent dynamics fractions. Taken together, results support adoption judicious use fertilizers enhancing topsoil storage fertility humid temperate conditions.

Modelling tillage and nitrogen fertilization effects on soil organic carbon

1 Agricultural management plays an important role in global warming mitigation due to 2 its effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics. In Mediterranean agroecosystems, 3 the interactive effects of tillage and N fertilization on SOC storage have scarcely been 4 studied. Hence, we here present a modelling study in which the effects of both tillage 5 and N fertilization on SOC dynamics are inv...

Long – Term Tillage and Manure Effect on Soil Physical and Chemical Properties and Carbon and Nitrogen Mineralization Potentials

The objective of this work was to study the effects of tillage and liquid manure applications on some physical and chemical properties as well as on the carbon and nitrogen mineralization potential of a meadow soil. Our results indicated that tillage and manure applications had no effect on the concentration of Cu, Mn, total N and organic C in 0-15 cm layer of soil after 15 years of treatment. ...

Tillage, cover crops, and nitrogen fertilization effects on soil nitrogen and cotton and sorghum yields

Sustainable soil and crop management practices that reduce soil erosion and nitrogen (N) leaching, conserve soil organic matter, and optimize otton and sorghum yields still remain a challenge. We examined the influence of three tillage practices (no-till, strip till and chisel till), four cover rops {legume [hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth)], nonlegume [rye (Secaele cereale L.)], vetch/rye bicu...

Long-term tillage and residue management effect on soil compaction and nitrate leaching in a Typic Haploxerert soil

A field experiment was conducted to compare the effects of long-term tillage and cropresidue management on some physical properties and nitrate leaching of a Typic Haploxerertsoil under winter wheat (Triticum vulgare L.)-soybean (Glycine max L.) double-croppingsystem. The tillage systems consisted of conventional tillage with stubble (CT1), conventionaltillage with stubbles burned (CT2), heavy ...
